Earlier in the year PSAA launched the new Local Audit Quality Forum (LAQF) as part of our commitment to the continuous improvement of audit quality and effectiveness. The Forum is intended to be a meeting place where all of the parties which have a role and an interest in local audit can share experiences and good practice. In particular we want to give a special focus to the work of local bodies and their audit committees to help them play their critical and demanding roles effectively.
The launch in London was very successful attracting 150 delegates, and we were particularly pleased that audit committee chairs and chief finance officers were especially well represented. We are now arranging our second event at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Manchester City Centre on Monday, 3 December. We are keen to move around the country to try to extend our reach to all of the bodies which have opted into PSAA’s scheme.
The theme of this event is Financial Resilience and Sustainability, a major challenge for all local authorities and police bodies in the current climate and a key strategic concern as bodies prepare 2019/20 budgets and update medium term plans. The event will explore:
~ the nature and scale of the sustainability challenges facing local bodies;
~ the strategies and disciplines which can help to address them successfully; and
~ the roles and responsibilities of Chief Finance Officers and Auditors in helping to maintain resilience and sustainability.
Confirmed speakers include : Sarah Howard, President of CIPFA; David Aldous, Director, National Audit Office, Janet Dawson, EY Government and Public Sector Assurance Leader, Jayne Owen, Director of Finance (police and Crime), Greater Manchester CA and Leigh Whitehouse, Executive Director of Finance, Surrey CC.
