Public Sector Audit Appointments Limited (PSAA) has extended its current audit contracts by two years, following mutual agreement with the appointed firms. The extension covers the audits of the financial years 2028/29 and 2029/30.
Originally awarded in 2022, the contracts span audits from 2023/24 to 2027/28 and involve six firms: Grant Thornton, Forvis Mazars, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Bishop Fleming, and Azets Audit Services. This extension ensures continuity and stability in local audit arrangements for the more than 99% of eligible local government, police, and fire bodies that opted into PSAA’s national scheme.
PSAA remains committed to supporting a sustainable and high-quality local audit system and welcomes the government’s strategy to overhaul the current framework. We believe the proposed reforms offer a vital opportunity to build a more cohesive and resilient system that better serves the public interest, and we believe that the contract extension will help as it enables the Local Audit Office (LAO) to focus its efforts on other areas in its initial phase.
Bill Butler, Chair of PSAA’s Board said:
“These contract extensions are very important in providing a basis for audits going forward and will support the initial work of the LAO. I am grateful to our team and our colleagues in the firms for their work in making this happen.”
