Leadership Essentials – Audit Committees

The LGA Leadership Essentials programme is a series of themed leadership events and workshops. They are aimed at leading members offering a stand-alone opportunity to concentrate on particular themes and share experiences amongst colleagues dealing with similar challenges.  Expert speakers and skilled facilitators guide delegates through, but the learning is as much from each other as it is from the experts.

Our new offer for 2020 is a Leadership Essentials event on Audit, especially aimed at Audit Committee Chairs and Vice-Chairs.

The role of Audit Committees is to ensure that the council has an effective system for managing risks and controlling its finances. In these times of reduced resources and enhanced risk this role is more important than ever.  With several parallel reviews of local government audit underway and controversy in the private sector about the role of external auditors, there has never been a better time to reflect on how audit committees in local government need to be fulfilling their role.  This programme will discuss how Audit Committees can be most effective, drawing on the insights of auditors to ensure that the public can have confidence in the way the council is managing its financial affairs.
